Internship Program at Refugees Welcome International (RWI)

As an intern at Refugees Welcome International (RWI), you will gain insights into the workings of an international network represented in twelve different countries around the world. You will gain hands-on experiences and contribute to the provision of private accommodation for refugees worldwide. 

RWI offers two internship streams in (1) Social Media Management and (2) Advocacy for a minimum of 6 months. Interns are assigned to a local office at one of the participating Refugees Welcome country chapters, or choose to work remotely.

Internship Structure 

  • Flexible starting time 
  • Minimum 6 months
  • Part-time (15–25 hours)

Internship Location

Interns have the ability to be stationed in one of the local chapters, conditional to approval of the respective Refugees Welcome country chapter. Chapters that host interns include Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Austria. Some chapters require good working knowledge of the national language. 

It is possible to work remotely from your country of residence. Please be aware that the coordination of the RWI network is located in the Central European Time Zone.

Compensation

RWI interns are currently still unpaid, due to insufficient funding, though this should change soon. However, we advise candidates to seek funding via Erasmus+. More information here or at your local institution.

1. Social Media Management

This internship stream is right for you, If you are interested in digital communication and feel at home in the Social Media world. Join the RWI Team and develop your skills while making a real world difference!

Tasks

  • Active Social Media management
  • Social Media content creation
  • Conducting desk-based research 
  • Liaising with different Refugees Welcome country chapters
  • Assistance with the RWI newsletter

Your Profile

  • Completed or ongoing studies, in which you have engaged with RWI related topics and/or proven interest in the field 
  • First experiences with public relations and social media is a big plus
  • You love digital communication and have experience with graphic design or eagerness to learn fast
  • You are comfortable writing compelling content in English
  • You feel comfortable in an activist environment 
  • You work independently and reliably 
  • You think strategically and creatively

2. Advocacy

This internship stream is targeted towards candidates, who are interested in supporting RWI with advocating the use of private accommodation and co-living for refugees in social inclusion policies at the international level. 

Tasks 

  • Assisting the coordination team with advocacy efforts toward promoting private accommodation for refugees around the world 
  • Desk-based research on RWI related fields
  • Mapping key actors and potential allies
  • Liaising with different Refugees Welcome country chapters
  • Administrative assistance to the RWI coordination team

Your Profile

  • Completed or ongoing studies, in which you have engaged with RWI related topics and/or proven interest in the field
  • First experiences with advocacy, drafting policy papers, fact-sheets or reports is a big plus
  • You are comfortable drafting and editing in English
  • You feel comfortable in an activist environment 
  • You work independently and you are dependable
